BERNINA of America is headquartered in Aurora, IL. The parent company
of BERNINA of America, Inc. is Fritz Gegauf, A.G., and was founded
over 100
years ago in Steckborn, Switzerland. The company is now owned and managed
by the founder’s great-grandson and continues the many traditions
handed down for four generations. Fritz Gegauf designed the world’s
first commercial hemstitching machine in 1893. The Gegauf Hemstitching
Machine was in general use throughout Europe and America by the early 1900s
and the term “to gegauf” was used to describe mechanical
hemstitching.
The first BERNINA home sewing machine, Model 105, appeared in 1932
and BERNINA has continued to set the standard for quality home sewing
machines
throughout the 20th century and is at the pinnacle in the 21st century
with the BERNINA 830 sewing and embroidery machine.
BERNINA has always been committed to excellence in design and engineering
resulting in the highest quality products possible. The machines are
known for excellent stitch quality, ease of operation and dependability
to allow
the sewer a frustration-free environment promoting creativity.
BERNINA is totally committed to providing their dealers with the best
